There are common, popular, and favorite videos within the YouTube beauty community, but not everyone knows about them. If you’re just starting out and would like to know where to start, this article will introduce some of the most popular topics in the beauty blogging community.

Themed makeup tutorials are by far one of the most popular beauty videos. Makeup tutorials are great, but themed makeup tutorials are even better. Movies, Halloween, and celebrity looks are three examples of the themes that people use when making YouTube tutorials.

Make sure to include your most important keywords near the beginning of your video title instead of following them towards the end.

The My Boyfriend/Husband Does My Makeup video is another. Everyone loves to laugh and most people think it’s funny to see straight guys make mistakes doing girly things. So make sure it’s the first time your boyfriend or husband has done your makeup and he hasn’t practiced anything.

Collections of makeup, nail polish and lipstick are also common, especially for those who have large collections, but even for those who have small collections. If you’ve amassed a huge makeup collection (or anything else), you may want to limit the conversation by item so your video doesn’t get too long.

Instead of saying:

This is my nail polish in blue and this is my nail polish in red and this is my nail polish in yellow x 100 times. Suspend the words “this is mine” after sharing the first two or three items. This will help you increase the “audience retention” of your video.

Friendly tag videos can be about anything. You can reply to someone else’s “tag” or you can start your own. A “tagged video” is a video in which the presenter reads a predetermined list of questions and answers them himself or someone else with him or her. Questions can range from “What’s your favorite eyeshadow” to “What’s the last thing you’d be caught wearing?”

Outfit of the Day videos are videos where you share your outfits with your audience. You can share a multitude of outfits or just one. It might be nice to link to some sort of topic, but it’s not necessary. Make sure your outfits are appropriate for what you say they are. For example, it doesn’t mean that your bikini is perfect for a crabbing job in Alaska or a thick jacket for an African desert safari. But apart from that, give yourself a little freedom as everyone has their preference. Don’t be afraid to be you.
