The story follows Tucker and Dale (Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine), two well-meaning beer swilling good ol’ boys who have finally realised their dream of owning a vacation retreat, albeit a run down rural cabin. Unfortunately, their new neighbours are some rowdy college kids who get the wrong impression about these two amiable hillbillies. They aren’t serial killers, they just look that way to these idiots. Eventually, one of them, Allison (Katrina Bowden), gets into some trouble and Tucker and Dale come to her rescue. This makes the kids think that the pair are the real serial killers and they start systematically attacking them.
Amongst a slew of other credits, Dobyns has edited several films, including Steven Soderbergh’s Sex, Lies and Videotape, Patrick Sheane Duncan’s 84 Charlie Mopic, Allison Anders’ Gas Food Lodging and Carl Franklin’s One False Move. He has also written and directed a short film, November, which won the Seattle International Film Festival’s Best Short Award and was nominated for the same at the Vancouver Independent Film Awards. He has also served as a film instructor at the Tacoma School of the Arts from 2002-2004.
He began his career acquiring videodisc rights for release on RCA’s SelectaVision system in 1984 before moving into feature film distribution at Columbia TriStar Home Video where he was responsible for acquisition of all genres, notably the first three films from director Steve Soderbergh – 84 Charlie Mopic, Sex, Lies and Videotape and The Dark Horse. In addition, he has overseen the development of a number of original independent feature projects.
