The whisky market doesn’t care what the whisky tastes like, it cares only about the rarity of the bottle. A bottle of Private Eye from 1965 can fetch PS3,000 at auction, and even if it doesn’t have the coveted ‘prize’ label, it is still worth a premium. It is also important to note that Serge Valentin has never written a tasting note for this particular whisky.

The whisky was bottled to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Private Eye Magazine. It was a special vatting made from a 1961 cask. It has a stencilled label designed by cartoonist Ralph Steadman. The resulting whisky has a rich, mellow, and complex flavour that is reminiscent of raisin and sultana, with hints of honey, orange marmalade, and caramel. The bottle itself is an excellent choice for a night out on the town.
